Car Lockout at Agincourt Mall — Only Key Locked Inside

A driver contacted us from the parking lot of Agincourt Mall at 3850 Sheppard Avenue East after accidentally locking his only car key inside a Toyota Corolla sedan. The key was lying on the front seat, all doors were locked, and he had no spare. He was particularly concerned about possible damage to the door and the cost of replacing its locking mechanism.

After verifying the driver’s authorization and inspecting the vehicle, our locksmith encountered an unexpected complication. The door’s factory-protected internal locking mechanism was more resistant than anticipated, and the initial opening attempt was unsuccessful. Continuing with the same approach risked damaging the internal lock components, door frame or rubber weather seals.

Rather than applying additional force, our technician reassessed the door’s construction, locking hardware and factory security features. He selected an alternative professional entry approach better suited to the vehicle, with particular attention to preserving the paintwork, weather seals and original locking system. The customer was informed about the complication and reassured that replacing the lock or making a new key wasn’t necessary.

The Corolla was successfully opened on-site, and the original key was recovered. Before finishing, our locksmith checked the central locking system, exterior and interior door handles, and normal locking and unlocking functions. No drilling, replacement parts or electronic key programming were required.

The total service cost was $135 CAD + HST. What initially appeared to be a routine car lockout required a change of approach because of the door’s security construction. The vehicle was returned to the customer with its original key, functioning locks and no additional repairs needed.
